Abolition: Meet Andrew Roth
Andrew Roth (48 Hours in Purgatory, Devils Racecourse) will play the lead character, Joshua, in SKG’s upcoming film, Abolition, which shoots this fall. We shot Andrew a few questions for our regular actor Q&A. Check it out!
AR: I like The Road / The Watchmen / Avatar / Babel / 3:10 To Yuma. Still love Se7en and Full Metal Jacket. Too many to list!
SKG: What role in a film would you like to play and why?
AR: A Cowboy. I love the old western movies where the hero is not quite the Hero, very cool.
SKG: Who do you want to be like?
AR: I am becoming now, even as we speak.
SKG: What’s been your most challenging role?
AR: Playing an out of work super-hero.
SKG: What role are you playing in Abolition?
Joshua
SKG: Why did this role interest you?
AR: The internal conflicts of all tragic characters is what I find most alluring in all the roles I get to play. Joshua’s struggle between right & wrong (in his mind) is what grabbed me with Abolition. He has to stand up and take account for his life and is either afraid to or just doesn’t want to for fear of the unknown.
SKG: How are you preparing for this role?
AR: Working in construction where I don’t speak to anyone all day is a big help. I’m working to get locked into my own mind. I’ve also been fasting to lose weight as Joshua will be emaciated and half-starved.
SKG: Who do you want to work with one day?
AR: Bruce Willis, Cate Blanchett, Sylvester Stallone, Amy Adams, Meryl Streep
SKG: What made you want to be an actor?
AR: The power to help out others by confronting my own inner demons in order to bring forth objective art onto the big screen. We save the world by saving ourselves
SKG: If there’s one thing you want people to know when you’re gone, what would it be?
AR: That I worked to be a leader(even thought I don’t feel like one)and achieved my mission in my own eyes and the eyes of others.
